6 Bad Beauty Habits to Break in 2019
For many people, the new year represents a fresh start and new beginnings. Whether that be making use of that gym membership you’ve had for years, finally getting around to those never-ending DIY house jobs or promising to spend more quality time with friends and family – new years’ resolutions come in all shapes and sizes. One resolution we’ll be trying our best to stick to this year is to break those bad beauty habits we often fall into – especially during the madness of the festive season!
1. Hands off!
Nail biting may not be considered a high-risk activity, but it can actually lead to permanent damage to the nail bed (not to mention illnesses caused by bacteria hiding under the nail), so it’s definitely a habit to break in 2019! An emollient-rich moisturising hand cream, such as the Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, will help you resist the temptation to bite and keep your nails looking lovely and strong.
2. Treat yourself (and your lashes)
Do your eyes feel tired and irritated? Yes, it could be down to the lack of sleep from all the Christmas parties you went to, but it could also be your mascara! It turns out, whenever you put your mascara wand back in its tube, it takes bacteria in with it. These bacteria build up over time and can start to irritate your eyes, which is why it’s recommended to change your mascara every three months (as if we needed an excuse to buy more make up!). Why not try the Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara which lengthens, curls, volumizes and lifts your lashes – what more could you ask for?!
3. Cleanser is a girl’s best friend
Heading to the gym? It may seem like an extra chore, but don’t forget to take all your make-up off before you start exercising to prevent blocking up your pores. The Emma Hardie Moringa Balm thoroughly cleanses and moisturises your skin, leaving your pores make-up free and ready for action. Not only will this prevent breakouts, but it’s also handy for when you inevitably bump into an old acquaintance after leaving the gym with make-up running down your face.
4. Leave that ‘do alone!
Most people don’t even realise they’re doing it, but absent-mindedly playing with your hair isn’t as innocent as it seems. Actually, every time you touch your hair, you cause stress on it and contribute to oil build-up. No one wants greasy hair or split ends, so it’s definitely worth investing in a decent hairbrush, such as the Tangle Teezer Compact Styler to keep your hair looking beautiful and smooth.
5. Fake it until you make it
We know it’s January and the chances of the sun actually making an appearance are slim to none, but it’s always worth reminding ourselves that excessive exposure to the sun’s rays is extremely harmful. Thankfully, we’ve been blessed with some great alternative ways to get natural-looking bronzed skin. Tan-Luxe The Body are award-winning self-tan drops that you can add to your regular moisturiser to develop a radiant tanned glow. Be prepared to frequently hear the words ‘have you been away?’!
6. Give your neck some TLC
Be honest – do you show your neck as much attention as your face? No? Us, neither! However, the truth is, your neck can actually be one of the first tell-tale signs of ageing. But before you start thinking about overhauling your beauty regime, it’s as simple as including your neck into your current skincare routine. Make sure your application of cleanser, sun cream and moisturiser doesn’t just end at your jawline and your neck will thank you! The L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renew Day & Night Duo is the perfect solution to hydrate, smooth and firm up your skin.
So, what are you waiting for? Get 2019 off to a great start and break those bad beauty habits!
