The Benefits of a dry January
‘Dry January’ has become such a popular trend over the last few years, so we wanted to dig a little deeper and find out what the benefits actually are of giving up alcohol for 31 days. Of course, a detox from alcohol is never going to be a bad thing, but some of these benefits may surprise you!
1. You’ll sleep better
It’s no secret that alcohol can make you feel tired, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be able to fall into a nice, deep sleep. In fact, alcohol can disturb the deepest part of our sleep cycle, meaning that you won’t feel as refreshed and energised in the morning. We know what your body will appreciate, though… A lovely, chilled bottle of One Water. Ahhh.
2. You’ll boost your immune system
We’re all familiar with the dreaded January cold – when everyone heads back to work feeling tired and a little deflated after the festive period, it only takes one person to start feeling unwell for it to spread like wildfire. Don’t worry, though, as giving up alcohol and getting more sleep will have a positive impact on your immune system and you’ll give yourself the best chance of beating that cold. If you want even more of a boost to your immune system, make sure you’re also getting plenty of nutrients. Pip Orange Juice is a great source of vitamin C – delicious, organic and full of the good stuff… What more could you ask for?!
3. You’ll shift those extra pounds
Looking to cut back on the calories this January? Alcohol is definitely a good place to start – the average drink contains around 150 calories! Giving up alcohol for a month will reduce bloating and could also lead to weight loss. We love Dash Raspberry Sparkling Water as a low-calorie alternative – it’s tasty and refreshing with no sugar, calories or sweeteners.
4. You’ll have super glowing skin
Not only is alcohol damaging to your insides, but it can also affect your appearance. The dehydrating effects of alcohol leave your skin looking dry and dull, so going temporarily tee-total can help keep it looking healthy and revitalised. If you’re craving a drink packed full of flavour, why not treat yourself to a refreshing glass of Fever-Tree Ginger Ale instead?
So, there you have it – all the benefits of giving up alcohol for a month. We’re sold. Fancy a cup of Tetley Tea anyone?
