The school holidays are finally here and families all over the UK will be heading off on their summer adventures. There’s no doubt about it – travelling with kids can be stressful. No matter how many trips you’ve taken in the past or how prepared you feel, tantrums can strike when you least expect them. We’ve rounded up our 5 top tips to make your journey as plain sailing as possible, even for those with kids who just can’t sit still!
Raise your game
Holidays are all about spending quality time together as a family. What better way to kick off the journey and pass some time on the plane than with a fun game everyone can join in with? We love Dobble – an award-winning card game that’s nice and compact, making it the perfect travel companion. Challenge each other to match up the symbols and see who has the speediest reactions (our money is on the kids!)
Load up on snacks
Want to know the secret to keeping the kids happy onboard? Snacks, and lots of them! Bring along some suckable sweets to help with the change in pressure during take-off and landing and make sure to keep everyone hydrated with plenty to drink. Pip Orange Juice is one of our favourite refreshments – delicious, fresh and one of your five a day. Plus, our kids’ snackbox is a great choice to satisfy any hungry tummies. It even comes with coloured pencils for hours of fun!
Bring the creature comforts
If your child has a favourite cuddly toy or blanket, don’t forget to bring them along for the ride! Not only is it fun for the kids to share the adventure with their best friends, it also means you have a back-up plan for any onboard meltdowns. If you forget teddy at home, never fear! Our loveable Tommy and Tilly bears make great playmates for the kids and double-up as a perfect holiday souvenir.
Don’t be a technophobe
Technology brings a great solution to surviving long journeys with children – a tablet loaded full of games. For those worried about screen time, there are countless fun and educational apps out there that the kids will love but will also help them learn on-the-go. Don’t forget to bring a portable charger to make sure you won’t run out of juice – the Boompods Powerboom is super lightweight and will provide up to two full charges for your devices.
Play it safe
Amidst the piles of new holiday clothes, shoes and toys, make sure you don’t forget to pack perhaps the most important holiday essential – plenty of sun protection. Kids have sensitive skin that is particularly vulnerable to the sun’s rays, so grab your sunscreen, sun hats and sunglasses. We’d recommend Suneez sunglasses with polarised lenses that offer 100% UV protection, flexible frames that won’t snap when bent and, not to mention, a super stylish look for your mini trend-setters.
